My second birth, to my sweet baby Riley, took place on October 10th, 2015. At the time, I was running a very stressful and busy business while pregnant. I found my midwife, Robyn from Push Midwifery, through a friend’s birth where I served as the doula. Contractions began around midnight, and I called Robyn and my mom to join me. Once they arrived, we set a calming atmosphere with my favorite candles and even played the show Call the Midwife while preparing the birthing pool.
As my contractions intensified, I leaned into deep breathing while sitting in a low squat. My mom held me, applying pressure and rubbing a soothing blend of frankincense, patchouli, and sandalwood oil on my wrists. Max supported me by massaging my lower back. Together, we worked as a team, tackling each contraction one at a time. After hours of labor, it was time to push, and I moved into the birthing tub, summoning all my strength to bring Riley into the world.
When Riley was born, I pulled him to my chest, and Max and I were overwhelmed with joy, staring at this precious soul. I felt a mix of exhaustion and bliss. Afterward, I took a shower upstairs, settled on the couch to breastfeed Riley, and soaked in the peaceful moment. Max made breakfast but quickly crashed on the couch for a nap. When Summer woke up and came downstairs, she was thrilled to meet her brand-new baby brother. It was a day of love and wonder.
